(BOISE, ID – September 10, 2010) – Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Executive Director Jeff Sanders announced today former Boise State University golfer and current PGA TOUR member Graham DeLaet will be among the field when the 21st annual tournament tees off next week.
DeLaet is finishing up an impressive first full-year on the PGA TOUR with winnings so far of nearly $600,000. The PGA TOUR has an off-week during the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft, and that will allow DeLaet to return to the city where he not only played his college golf, but also competed in his first professional tournament. “We couldn’t be happier to have Graham back in Boise” said Sanders. “His history with the tournament dates back to 2003 when he was an amateur, so we’ve literally watched him grow up on the golf course. We are thrilled he’ll be competing again this year and helping us to raise money for the local non-profits that benefit from the tournament.” In addition to playing locally for BSU, DeLaet earned his way into the Albertsons Boise Open as an amateur in 2003 by qualifying in a Monday Open Qualifier. He also received sponsor exemptions to play in the tournament in 2005 and 2008. DeLaet qualified for the current PGA TOUR season by finishing tied for eighth at the 2009 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. This year on TOUR, he has one top-10 finish – third at the Shell Houston Open in April – and four top 25’s. “I’m really excited to be returning to the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft and to be playing in front of a home crowd again,” said DeLaet. “I have so many fond memories of playing golf in Boise and have received such tremendous support from the community, and it’s great to be able to give something back.” DeLaet joins a field already heavy with golfers who have local connections. Fellow BSU alum and PGA TOUR member Troy Merritt has committed to play, as have Tyler Aldridge, a Caldwell native and also a former Bronco, and Ryan Hietala, a Boise resident. All four players will take part in the Idaho Statesman Junior Golf Clinic presented by Hillshire Brands Tuesday at 5 pm on the Hillcrest Country Club driving range. The clinic is free for all spectators, and the first 200 junior golfers will receive a tournament cap. More than 150 non-profit organizations have the potential to benefit from this year’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft both through the tournament’s grants and the Hillshire Brands TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ program. Non-profit organizations taking part in the Hillshire Brands TICKETS Fore CHARITY program sell tournament tickets and keep 100% of the sales they generate. Over the past 20 years, the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft has generated more than $10.7 million for charity, making it one of the longest running and most successful events in terms of charitable contributions on golf’s Nationwide Tour. The 21st annual tournament takes place September 13-19, 2010 at Hillcrest Country Club, and tickets are on sale at www.albertsonsboiseopen.com. The tournament is produced by Portland, Ore.-based Jeff Sanders Promotions, Inc. Return to AlbertsonsBoiseOpen.com Comments are closed.
