With the 2014 Web.com Tour Finals in the books, the 2015 Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft & Nabisco will feature Past Major Champions and PGA TOUR winners
(October 20, 2014) – With the conclusion of the 2014 Web.com Tour season at the Web.com Tour Championship, 50 PGA TOUR cards and priority positions for 2014-15 have been determined. 2014 Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft & Nabisco Champion Steve Wheatcroft finished in 36th position on the priority position list, and is currently playing on the 2014-2015 PGA TOUR, where he made the cut in his first two starts. The PGA TOUR season continues this week with the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Georgia.
The Web.com Tour players more than held their own against their PGA TOUR peers in the Web.com Tour Finals, which combined the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour with the players ranked #126-200 on the PGA TOUR in a four-event series to determine who earned PGA TOUR cards for the 2014-15 season. 37 of the available 50 PGA TOUR cards were earned by players who played on the 2014 Web.com Tour. “With 37 of 50 PGA TOUR cards for next season earned by Web.com Tour players, it proves the Web.com Tour is not only the pathway to the PGA TOUR for many of the best golfers in the world, but it now also represents the expansion of the PGA TOUR,” said Executive Director Jeff Sanders.
Some Northwest natives who played in the Albertsons Boise Open performed extremely well on the Web.com Tour this year and will be moving on to the PGA TOUR. Andrew Putnam, who finished in the 8th priority position after the Web.com Tour Finals will be playing the PGA TOUR for the first time in 2014-15, along with fellow Washington resident Andres Gonzales, who finished in the 22nd position and will be playing on the PGA TOUR for the third time. Andrew finished T-33 this past week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and Andres made the cut in his first two PGA TOUR starts of the season.
One of the other major storylines involves the crop of talented players who did not retain their PGA TOUR cards, and thus will likely be playing on the Web.com Tour next year and in the Albertsons Boise Open at Hillcrest Country Club. Those expected to play on the Web.com Tour next year include former PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang, former Masters Champion Trevor Immelman, and former British Open Champion Ben Curtis. Also expected to play on the 2015 Web.com Tour are PGA TOUR winners Tommy Gainey, Chez Reavie, Johnson Wagner, Kyle Stanley, Tim Herron, Dudley Hart, Dicky Pride, D.A. Points, Vaughn Taylor, Troy Matteson, and Harrison Frazar. Other noteworthy players likely to be playing the Web.com Tour in 2015 include former U.S. Amateur Champion Kelly Kraft and former PGA TOUR player Charlie Wi.
The field for the 26th Annual Albertsons Boise Open, which will be played July 6-12, 2015, will be stronger than ever. The 2015 Web.com Tour schedule will be released soon, with the season likely to begin in mid-February. For more information, please visit: AlbertsonsBoiseOpen.com
