The SBS Tournament of Champions kicks off the 2017 PGA TOUR calendar year this week on the island of Maui. This elite field is comprised of 32 PGA TOUR winners and is reserved for 2016 champions only. 25 of these 32 players are Boise Open alums once again proving that the path to PGA TOUR stardom runs directly through Boise. Two-time Masters Champion Bubba Watson will tee it up in Hawaii, he finished T11 at the 2005 Albertsons Boise Open. World number one and three time winner in 2016 Jason Day also has a spot in the field, Day opened with a round of 65 at Hillcrest Country Club where he competed in the 2006 Boise Open.
Young stars such as Daniel Berger (’14 Boise Alum), Justin Thomas (’14) and Mackenzie Hughes (’16) will all be in the field as the odds are heavily in the Boise Alum’s favors. 2005 Albertsons Boise Open Champion Greg Chalmers seeks a win to kick off the New Year.
